District 1 Internship & Volunteer Program

Are you a high school student interested in local government? Do you want to make a meaningful impact in your community? If so, the District 1 Internship & Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and help serve our communities.

Participants work on projects that support District 1 which includes: Dublin, Fremont, Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol, and the East Unincorporated areas of Alameda County.

Our Mission:

The District 1 Internship & Volunteer Program is designed to foster meaningful connections between Alameda County and its youth. Through this initiative, we aim to educate students about the County’s functions and services, provide hands-on experience in local government, and empower young people to engage in civic life. Participants gain valuable work experience while contributing to community impact projects and outreach efforts that strengthen civic participation.

What You’ll Do:

As an intern or volunteer with the District 1 office, you will contribute to a variety of meaningful projects and activities. Responsibilities include developing a community impact project and supporting staff with administrative and research tasks. You will also represent the District 1 office at community events, engaging with local leaders and community members.

Preferred Qualities and Skills:

- Interested in local governance and passionate about local issues
- Outgoing, polite, and comfortable interacting with members of the public
- Hardworking
- Innovative
- Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
- Fluency in a second language is advantageous but not required

Once the Summer Intern Cohort has been finalized, accepted interns will receive a confirmation email.
